We combine advanced 3D scanning technology with traditional craftsmanship to capture, preserve and accurately reproduce historic leadwork with millimetre precision.
we utilise the latest 3D scanning technology to record existing leadwork in exceptional detail, capturing even the smallest features that may otherwise be lost to time. This data is processed into a precise CAD file, which can be archived for future conservation reference or used to reproduce exact replacements.
From these CAD models, we manufacture new casting moulds using advanced 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machining. Intricate detail is routed into aluminium moulds, creating accurate chill patterns that faithfully replicate the original craftsmanship. This process allows us to reproduce complex components with exceptional accuracy, ensuring seamless integration with historic structures.
For example, a set of ornamental pipe heads originally formed in the 1920s had lost their original formers and production knowledge. Through detailed scanning, technical planning and specialist fabrication, Lead It Be created new casting moulds and produced accurate reproductions that preserved the architectural integrity of the building.
Precision Led Reproduction Through 3D Scanning & CAD
Our scanning technology captures complex geometry and fine surface detail that traditional measuring methods cannot achieve. The resulting digital files create a permanent record of historic leadwork, supporting both immediate reproduction and long term conservation planning.
The scanned data is converted into detailed CAD models, allowing for precise dimension control and repeatability. These files can be securely stored and reused for future maintenance, conservation or replication projects.
Using 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machinery, we produce high precision aluminium moulds directly from the CAD files. This enables us to recreate original chill patterns and decorative elements with exceptional fidelity.
3D scanning is particularly valuable for Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, ecclesiastical structures and architecturally significant properties. Where original formers have been lost, digital capture allows us to recreate components that remain visually and technically authentic.
